People usually walked on foot to get to the beach, or they arrived via ships, carriages, and by riding the famous tram called Trčika. In literature, the Danube and Strand are usually described from three different perspectives. First of all, swimming spots were the main places of social gatherings, where people relaxed, hung out, and naturally - fell in love.
Also, beaches were the spaces of personal freedom, where one could day-dream and connect with the river. We must not forget a much darker context the historical events such as the Novi Sad Raid and the wars: in literary works that discuss these heavy topics,
the Danube is described as an obstacle for the enemy during the attack or as the mass grave.
